Hockey Turf

FAST, TRUE AND CONSISTENT
Synthetic hockey turf is a short-pile artificial grass pitch built on a compacted stone base with a shock pad, designed for a fast, true ball roll and consistent footing. Classic Sports Infra installs three types across India: sand-dressed turf, which needs no irrigation and suits schools and academies; sand-filled turf for practice grounds and multi-use fields; and water-based turf, the surface used for international competition, which is sprayed before play. A full-size pitch measures 91.4 m by 55 m, roughly 54,000 sq ft, and takes three to five months to build including base construction, drainage, shock pad, turf laying, line marking and fencing. Practice pitches on a prepared base are faster. The fibres are UV stabilised for Indian sun and the turf plays the same in every season. We survey the site, design the base and drainage, and hand over a pitch ready for play with goals and nets.
Fast, true hockey surfaces for academies, schools and stadiums
Hockey turf is a dense, short-pile synthetic surface engineered for the fast, low ball movement of field hockey. Unlike football turf, hockey surfaces use a much shorter and tighter fibre so the ball runs true and the stick glides without catching. Depending on the level of play the pitch is sand-dressed, sand-filled or water-based.
Classic Sports Infra builds astro turf hockey pitches as complete projects: a precisely graded base, shock pad, turf carpet, sand dressing and line marking to standard dimensions, with fencing, dug-outs and floodlighting available as part of the same contract anywhere in India.

Most popularSand-dressed hockey turf
A fine-fibre carpet lightly dressed with sand. Fast, consistent and the most common choice for schools, academies and club grounds that want a competition-style surface at a sensible cost.

Multi-useSand-filled hockey turf
Denser sand infill supports the fibres for durability where the pitch is also used for training, other sports or community events.

What is the difference between sand-dressed and water-based hockey turf?
Sand-dressed turf has a light sand dressing and needs no irrigation, making it the practical choice for schools and academies. Water-based turf is irrigated before play for the fastest, most forgiving surface and is the international competition standard.
How much does a hockey turf cost in India?
Hockey turf cost depends on the turf type (sand-dressed, sand-filled or water-based), base construction, shock pad, pitch size and extras such as fencing and floodlights, and the overall figure varies by city because materials and crews are transported to site. Contact us with your city and site details for an itemised quotation.
Can a hockey turf be used for football?
Hockey turf has a short pile designed for a rolling ball and is not ideal for football studs. For shared use we recommend a dedicated multisport specification; speak to us about your requirements.
How long does a hockey pitch take to build?
A full-size pitch including base construction typically takes three to five months: six to ten weeks for excavation, drainage and the stone base, two to three weeks for the shock pad and turf, and the balance for line marking, fencing and lighting. Practice pitches on a prepared base are finished in four to six weeks.
